CONFERENCE: Global Cotton: Cotton as a case of precocious globalization

A workshop to be held at Nuffield College on Saturday 14 January, jointly sponsored by Nuffield College and the Oxford Centre for Global History. The key themes of the workshop will be: ‘The Material Atlantic: textiles and culture in the Atlantic World’; ‘The Meaning of Cotton: fabrics and fashion in Europe’;  ‘Cotton in India and China: cotton and divergence’; ‘Cotton in British Industrialisation: explaining British precocity’. 

The workshop will open with a plenary lecture by Professor Giorgio Riello (Warwick University) on Friday 13 January at 5pm.
